A man was arrested Monday after deputies say he stabbed another man at a Racetrac gas station on Bonita Beach Road.
Joel Duron, 26, was accused of punching, grabbing, and stabbing the victim with a box cutter inside the store just after the victim walked in to get food, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Duron ran away after the attack, but deputies found him a few minutes later on Furlong Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies say Duron has a criminal history, including charges for battery, grand theft, and trespassing.
Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit took over the case. After reviewing evidence, they arrested Duron for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
“In less than two hours, my team did the work needed to put this violent criminal behind bars,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I’m proud of the hard work our deputies and detectives do to keep our community safe.”
