New Sidewalk Coming to Lehigh Elementary School

A new sidewalk is coming to Lehigh Elementary School to help students walk safely to class.

On Tuesday, the Lee County Board of Commissioners approved a $216,096 contract with V & H Construction, Inc., a Fort Myers company. The project is being paid for with a federal grant from the Safe Routes to School program.

The sidewalk will be built near Lehigh Elementary, located at 200 Schoolside Drive. It will run along Schoolside Drive from East 3rd Street to Richmond Avenue North. Another section will go from Schoolside Drive to East 3rd Street along Schoolside Court.

Construction is expected to begin in July and finish by October, if weather allows.

Crews will also install a handrail, fix small drainage issues, move some signs, and add textured warning surfaces for safety.

The project is part of Lee County’s effort to improve sidewalks and roads in Lehigh Acres.
