Lehigh Acres Parents Arrested After 12-Year-Old Son Dies from Neglect

A couple in Lehigh Acres is facing serious charges after their 12-year-old son died from a lack of medical care.

Luis and Qwentosha Massaquoi were arrested on Wednesday, June 18. They are charged with aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the parents told deputies that their son became sick, but they chose not to take him to a doctor.

Detectives say the child had several health issues that got worse over many months. Investigators also found internet searches on the parents’ phones about medical symptoms, treatments, and child death.

“This child suffered for a long time before dying,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “Our team worked hard to get justice for him.”

The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by the failure to provide medical care.

Both parents were booked into the Lee County Jail.
