Yanko Romero and Ryan Samuel Cole indicted on murder, kidnapping, and other violent charges in Lee County

State Attorney Amira D. Fox announced Tuesday that Yanko Romero and Ryan Samuel Cole have been indicted on multiple violent charges in two separate cases in Lee County.

Romero faces charges of first-degree murder with actual possession and discharge of a firearm causing death, which is a capital felony. He is also charged with attempted first-degree murder with possession and discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony.

In addition, Romero faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm (third-degree felony), tampering with a firearm (third-degree felony), and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, a second-degree felony. He also faces three counts of shooting into or within a dwelling or building, all second-degree felonies.

“All these charges are connected to the crime that happened on June 8, 2025, near the Oasis Grand Boulevard building in Lee County,” Fox said during the press conference.

The indictment states that for count one, Romero unlawfully and with premeditation caused the death of the victim by shooting him with a firearm. Count two charges Romero with attempted murder of a second victim, and count three charges him with aggravated assault with a firearm against that same person.

“This was a senseless act of violence that left a lasting impact on the victim’s family and our community,” said Chief Fields. “This indictment is the result of a tireless investigation by our officers and detectives, working closely with State Attorney Amira Fox and her team. It reflects our shared commitment to making sure violent offenders are held accountable.”

Ryan Samuel Cole indicted for kidnapping, rape, and murder

In a separate case, Ryan Samuel Cole was indicted for first-degree murder, kidnapping, and sexual battery involving a woman in Fort Myers.

“This was an extremely violent crime that took place over several days,” said Fox.

According to the indictment, between July 6 and July 9, 2021, Cole unlawfully and with premeditation caused the death of the victim, either by strangling her, striking her head or torso with blunt force, or through other physical assault, while committing or attempting to commit the crime of kidnapping.

The second count, kidnapping, alleges that Cole forcibly, secretly, or by threat, confined, abducted, or imprisoned the victim with the intent to cause harm, terrorize her, or commit other crimes.

“We will never stop pursuing justice, no matter how much time has passed,” said Chief Fields. “We are committed to holding violent offenders accountable.”
