Tropical Storm Andrea Forms in the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Andrea has officially formed in the central Atlantic, becoming the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of 11:00 a.m. AST, Andrea was located near latitude 36.6 North and longitude 48.9 West, about 1,200 miles west of the Azores. The storm is moving east-northeast at 17 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

Forecasters say Andrea is not expected to strengthen and will likely weaken tonight. The system is expected to dissipate by Wednesday night.

There are no watches or warnings in effect, and Andrea poses no threat to land. Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 45 miles from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1014 millibars.
